Ever since 1881, when Kintaro Hattori built Japan's first watch, SEIKO has been dedicated to timekeeping perfection. In the 1950's and 1960's, SEIKO challenged themselves with creating the world's first quartz watch. With their signature passion for technological creation, SEIKO did just that in 1969 in the Quartz Astron which brought innovation to the history of watches and completely revolutionized the concept of watches in general. Starting in 1968, Seiko has been accumulating international awards for their watch making. Most recently, the Spring Drive Chronograph won the 2008 Watch of the Year from Horloges Magazine (the Netherlands), the Spring drive SNR011 won the 2008 Golden Wheel Award from Uhren-Magazin (Germany), and the Spring Drive SNR005 won the Design award for Watch Time magazine (USA) in 2006. They have also received other honors, such as being the official time keeper of the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway and the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.
