The company was originally created in 1869 in Pfrozheim, Germany by Friedrich Speidel. He and his family moved operations to the US just after the turn of the 20th century and the Speidel company was officially established as a American company in 1904. It actually began as a jewelry chain manufacturer in Providence, Rhode Island.

For an interesting twist on being a regular jewelry creator, Speidel also manufactured cathode ray tubes for radar and electronics in 1942 during World War II. In the 50's, thought, watch bands and jewelry productions came back with a vengeance and they introduced the first Photo I.D bracelets and ladies rhinestone fashion bracelets. They are most well known for their watch accessories such as the "Twist-O-Flex" watch band introduced between 1959 and 1963 and the Euro-Flex band in 1988. They also make digital watches, a "Sport Metal" line, and a "Signet" line, to name just a few.
